Good afternoon parents /guardians!
Today, September 20th, at approximately 1:00 pm, several staff members heard gunshots northwest of the high school. Out of an abundance of caution, our MS/HS administrators moved swiftly to “lock down” the MS/HS building, and other locations in the district soon followed. At no time were students and/or staff under immediate threat or danger. After an investigation by our local authorities, the gunfire was determined not to be a threat, and the schools and district returned to normal operations.
Fourth graders are learning about engineering so we got into groups to do a paper chain challenge. The groups were given one piece of paper, scissors, glue stick, and a piece of tape to make the longest paper chain they could make in 25 minutes. The students did a GREAT job, they learned so much about working together, revising, collaborating, expressing ideas, and having fun problem solving!

At Lybrook, every classroom receives SEL (social emotional learning) lessons from Mr. Cook, our Dean of Students/Counselor. Students are learning how to regulate their emotions in order to be ready to learn. They're learning about ways to be respectful, responsible, show integrity, and do their best. These skills help them learn today so they can lead tomorrow!

This week in fourth grade, classes read a story called “When I was Puerto Rican, How to Eat a Guava”. Students created a comic strip to work on our sensory details and even got to taste guava juice!

We're so thankful for virtual support that allows our kids to have quality services, even when a staff member needs extended time off. These students were really enjoying their online supports today!
